The members of the Democratic Women of the Southland Region believe that politics have an impact on practically every aspect of our lives and that having knowledge of politics helps make for an informed voter. We also believe in the importance of open and honest government and the selection of individuals who have a desire to improve and uplift their communities. It is imperative to encourage future generations to actively participate in their communities and to help make sure they understand that they will have an effect the future success of our commonwealth. We must support the efforts of individuals who are focused on this goal and we believe providing a scholarship to our young people is an investment in the future of our community leaders.

Be an Illinois resident in the South Suburbs • Complete the DWSR Undergraduate Scholarship Application • Submit verification of college enrollment or letter of acceptance • Write a personal statement (500 words or less) describing interest and involvement in politics, public service, hobbies, talents, sports and/or school activities. The statement should address future academic and professional career plans and may highlight any personal challenge(s) perspective has overcome. • Submit high school transcript (if in college, current transcript) • Submit two letters of recommendation from persons other than relatives • Submit a recent photograph of himself/herself via email @info@ildwsr.org • Provide proof of voter registration if 18 years of age or older 

Complete the DWSR Undergraduate Scholarship Application • Forward the application and all supporting materials to the DWSR Scholarship Selection Committee via mail postmarked by TBD •  Any supporting material not submitted along with application will result in applicant being disqualified.
